You might start seeing a slow weep of hydraulic fluid around the connection, or if it’s an air inlet, you’ll hear that distinct hiss of an air leak. What that means for the rig is often a drop in system pressure downstream, leading to things like a drill feed that’s a bit sluggish, or maybe even inconsistent impact on the rock drill. It's not always a catastrophic failure right away, but it's a steady degradation of performance.

When you're swapping one of these out, the main thing is to make sure you clean up the mating surfaces thoroughly before you install the new one. Any old sealant residue or grit can mess up your new connection right away. Also, don't just crank it down; check the torque specs for the fittings going into it. A lot of guys just go by feel, but over-tightening can crack the new socket, and under-tightening, well, that’s just asking for a leak. Always check the O-rings or seals on the connecting lines too; sometimes the socket is fine, but the seal going into it is shot.
