When these pads start to wear thin, or if one breaks up, you’ll definitely notice things getting a bit sloppy. The most common sign is usually increased slop or play in whatever component it’s guiding – maybe your feed beam starts rattling more than usual, or a boom section feels a bit loose when extending. Sometimes you even get a grinding noise as metal starts making contact where it shouldn't, or the movement just feels sluggish and uneven. It’s a clear sign that the clearances are opening up, and you’re starting to put unnecessary stress on other parts, leading to accelerated wear elsewhere.

Replacing these isn't usually a major job, but it's important to do it right.
