It’s a domino effect, really.

Replacing a LOCK PLATE is usually straightforward, but don't just slap a new one on and call it a day. Always check the mating surfaces for any damage or burrs that might have caused the original one to fail or prevented it from seating correctly. And here's the kicker: make sure you're using the right torque on the fastener it's locking.
