Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but getting the gap right is crucial. Too far away, and it won't sense anything; too close, and you risk damaging it or the target it's sensing. Always check the mounting bracket and make sure it's not bent or loose, because that's a common reason they get knocked out of alignment or fail prematurely. Also, give the wiring a good once-over for any chafing or corrosion, especially where it connects to the switch itself.
