STEEL WIRE ROPE

209 130 65 WIRE ROPE is typically one of those critical cables that handles the heavy lifting or tensioning in your feed system. It's not just a piece of rope; it's what takes the load when you're pulling back the drill string or moving the feed beam up and down. Think of it as the muscle that keeps things moving smoothly and under control, transferring power from the feed cylinder or motor to the actual drill head assembly. Without it, or if it's not up to spec, you're not drilling, plain and simple.

When this wire starts going bad, you'll usually notice it first as some jerky movement in the feed, or maybe a bit of a shudder when the load changes. Sometimes, you'll hear a subtle creaking or popping sound from the mast area, especially under load, which is a big red flag. If you let it go too long, you might even see the drill string 'drift' a bit when it should be holding steady, or the feed rate becomes inconsistent. That's a clear sign the wire's stretching, or individual strands are starting to break internally, losing its ability to maintain proper tension or carry the load evenly.

Replacing this wire isn't a job to put off. When you're swapping it out, make sure you're also checking all the sheaves and rollers it runs over. It's a common oversight, but a worn sheave can chew up a brand new wire in no time flat. Also, pay close attention to the anchor points and terminations; sometimes the wear isn't on the main run but right where it's clamped or secured. A quick visual inspection of those spots can save you a lot of headache down the road.
