235 054 08 CENTERING PIECE Located deep inside the drifter's rotation gear housing, the CRANK acts as the mechanical heart of the rotation system. It takes the input from the rotation motor and translates it into the powerful, controlled turning motion that is transferred through the gearing to the shank adapter and the entire drill string.

Proper function of this component is essential for both drilling speed and accuracy. A worn or damaged CRANK can cause erratic rotation, a noticeable loss of torque, or even stalling of the drill bit in the hole. A complete failure brings drilling to an immediate halt and can lead to secondary damage to other expensive gears and bearings in the unit.

Pay close attention to any grinding or heavy clunking noises from the drifter's rotation unit, as this can be a symptom of wear. When servicing the drifter, inspect the gear lubricant for an unusual amount of metal particles. If these signs appear, the unit should be disassembled for inspection and potential replacement of the CRANK.
