It's a simple job, really, but absolutely essential for any kind of precise control on a rig.

When this SEAT starts to get chewed up, or even just slightly pitted, that's when your problems really begin. The valve won't seal tight anymore, plain and simple. You'll start seeing things like hydraulic cylinders drifting when they should be locked, or maybe your feed pressure just isn't holding steady. If it's in an air circuit, you might even hear a faint hiss or feel a bit of sluggishness in your controls. That constant, low-level internal leakage means the system's always fighting itself, and you’ll definitely feel it in the rig’s response – often a bit spongy or just not as crisp as it should be.

When you're swapping one of these out, the biggest thing is making sure the housing bore is absolutely spotless before the new SEAT goes in. Any little bit of crud or old sealant left behind is just going to ruin the fresh surface in no time flat. And don't forget to give the mating poppet or ball a real good look-over too; often, if the SEAT's worn, the part that closes against it is probably showing some wear as well. You replace one without the other, and you're usually just setting yourself up for another repair down the line.
