Its job is to hold the steel firmly on the correct axis as it begins to penetrate the rock. This precise guidance is fundamental for accurate collaring and achieving the planned drilling pattern.

When the bushings inside the centralizer wear out, the drill steel is no longer held securely. This allows it to wander at the start of the hole, leading to inaccurate placement and increased bending stress on the steel itself. This not only compromises the blast result but also significantly shortens the life of your drill rods and can put extra strain on the drifter's front components.

A key sign of a worn centralizer is visible oval wear on the internal bushings and excessive play around the drill steel. If you notice difficulty collaring or an increase in broken rods, inspect this part immediately. Replacing the worn bushings is a straightforward task that prevents more costly damage.
