PIN, TOWING

029 496 60 PIN, TOWING is basically one of those critical pivot points that lets the boom or feed frame actually swing. It’s what carries the load when you’re slewing the rig around, taking all that shear force as the boom moves. Without it, or if it’s worn, things just don't articulate right. It’s a simple piece of steel, but it’s doing some heavy lifting, keeping everything aligned while allowing movement.

When these pins start wearing out, usually what you’ll notice first is some slop in the boom or feed movement. You might hear a distinct clunking sound every time the boom starts or stops swinging, or when it hits the end of its travel. That’s the pin and its bushings (if it uses them) moving around more than they should. It can lead to the boom not holding its position as well, or feeling a bit 'loose' when you’re trying to position it precisely for a new hole. The whole assembly just won't feel as tight and responsive.

When you're replacing one of these, always check the corresponding bushings – they usually wear out right along with the pin, sometimes even faster. Don't just swap the pin and call it a day; you'll be back in there sooner than you want. Also, make sure you've got good grease going to it. A lot of folks forget to hit those grease zerks regularly, and that’s a quick way to chew up a new pin and bushings.
