RETURN ACCUM
The RETURN ACCUM 3115 2615 90 is a key hydraulic accumulator that smooths out pressure spikes in your rig's return line. It helps keep the system quieter and protects other components from premature wear, making sure your drill runs consistently. It's often overlooked but really important.

Full Technical Description
RETURN ACCUM 3115 2615 90 is essentially a shock absorber for your hydraulic return line. It's there to smooth out those pressure spikes and absorb the energy coming back from the system, especially when components like the rock drill are cycling hard and fast. Think of it as a buffer; without it, you’d get a lot of hammering and pressure fluctuations that would just beat up your hoses, valves, and even the main pump over time. It really helps keep the whole hydraulic system a bit calmer, which is crucial for longevity and consistent operation on a drill rig.
When this accumulator starts to give up the ghost, usually it’s the bladder inside that’s lost its pre-charge or gotten torn. What you’ll often notice first is the hydraulic system getting a lot noisier, particularly on the return side. You might pick up a distinct 'clunking' or even a 'hammering' sound as the oil flow isn't being dampened like it should be. Pressure gauges might show more erratic fluctuations than normal, and if you let it go too long, you could even see other hydraulic components wearing out faster because they’re taking the full brunt of those undamped pressure surges. That increased noise, though, is usually your first big clue something’s off.
Swapping this unit out isn't usually a big deal, but you absolutely have to de-pressurize the hydraulic system completely before you even think about touching it. The most common thing guys forget, and it’s a critical one, is checking the nitrogen pre-charge on the new accumulator before you install it. That pre-charge makes a massive difference in how the system behaves. Once it’s in, just double-check all your connections for any weeping or leaks. Getting that pre-charge right from the start will save you a ton of headaches and call-backs later on.
