PISTON ROD 50
The 321 873 68A PISTON ROD 50 (part number 321 873 68a) is a critical component for transmitting hydraulic force in your rig's cylinders. It handles the pushing and pulling, directly impacting movement and stability. Keeping it smooth and straight is key to preventing leaks and maintaining consistent machine operation.

Full Technical Description
321 873 68A PISTON ROD 50 is the backbone of any hydraulic cylinder on your rig, whether it's pushing a feed beam, extending a boom, or rotating a drifter. It's what actually transmits the force from the hydraulic pressure inside the cylinder out to whatever needs moving. Think of it as the muscle that does the heavy lifting, taking all the linear load and getting the job done. It's got to be tough to handle all that pushing and pulling day in, day out.
When this rod starts to go bad, you’ll usually notice a few things. First off, if the chrome plating gets scratched or pitted, it’s going to chew up your cylinder seals pretty quick. That means external oil leaks, obviously, but also internal bypass, leading to sluggish cylinder movement or even drift where the component won't hold its position. You might hear the pump working harder than it should, or see inconsistent pressure readings on your gauges because the cylinder isn't holding pressure properly. Sometimes, if it's really bent, you'll get binding or excessive side load on the gland.
Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but you've got to be careful. Always, and I mean always, inspect the new rod for any nicks or damage before you even think about putting it in. A tiny scratch can ruin a brand new seal kit in hours. Also, make sure your gland nut is torqued correctly; too loose and it leaks, too tight and you're binding the rod and wearing out seals prematurely. Don't forget to check the condition of the piston head itself while you're in there; sometimes the rod threads can get damaged, or the piston seal groove is worn.
