It provides a stable mounting face for bearings and gears within the rotation gear train, ensuring that shafts and other components remain perfectly positioned during the intense vibration of drilling.

Wear or damage to this plate can have serious consequences for the entire drifter. For example, if the bearing seats become worn, the resulting gear misalignment will quickly lead to excessive noise, loss of rotation torque, and ultimately, catastrophic failure of the gear train.
