Without effective flushing, debris builds up, causing the drill bit to re-grind material. This slows drilling progress and significantly increases wear on the bit.

Typically running along the feed beam, this air pipe is constantly exposed to heavy vibration and potential impacts from falling rock. A leak or crack in the pipe leads to a loss of air pressure at the bit. This not only hurts performance but can also allow water and debris to enter the drifter's front end, potentially damaging internal components.

Listen for hissing sounds around the feed and drifter, which often indicate a leak. If you notice poor flushing or dust blowing back from the hole, inspect the pipe and its connections for damage. Always replace a cracked or heavily worn pipe immediately to prevent a complete failure during operation.
