330 766 28 BUSHING, BEARING Functioning as a sacrificial bearing, this bushing is typically installed in high-load pivot points within the boom linkage or feed system. It absorbs the immense radial forces and vibrations that occur during drilling and tramming. By creating a tight, smooth fit for a steel pin, it prevents direct metal-on-metal contact that would otherwise elongate the bore in a much more expensive casting or welded structure.

As this component wears, it introduces excessive play, or 'slop', into the mechanical joint. A worn bushing in a boom pivot, for instance, makes it very difficult for the operator to accurately position the feed, slowing down the entire drilling cycle. This looseness also allows shock loads to be transferred directly to other components, accelerating fatigue and leading to other failures.

During regular walk-around inspections, check for any noticeable looseness or listen for clunking sounds from the joints when the boom is moved. When replacing a worn bushing, always inspect the corresponding pin for galling or wear and replace it as well if it is out of tolerance. Ensure the housing is clean before pressing the new bushing in straight.
