Think of it as a main artery for the rig's muscle, delivering the power where it's needed most to get the job done.

When this tube starts to go, you'll often see a slow, weeping leak first, usually around the crimped ends or where it's been rubbing against something. Sometimes, if it's an internal failure like a delaminated liner, you might notice sluggish movement in whatever circuit it serves – maybe the feed cylinder isn't extending smoothly, or the rotation motor feels a bit weak. A sudden burst, of course, means you're just dead in the water, spewing oil everywhere, which is always a fun cleanup on site.

Replacing this isn't rocket science, but you've got to make sure you're routing the new one exactly like the old. Don't take shortcuts and let it rub on a frame member or another hose; that's just asking for trouble down the line. Always double-check your fittings for proper torque, and for crying out loud, make sure you bleed the air out of the system afterward, especially if it's on a critical circuit. A lot of guys forget that last bit, and then wonder why things are still acting funny.
