Its purpose is to physically protect them from the underground environment, absorbing shocks and preventing damage from rock falls or collisions. It also creates a sealed environment that keeps corrosive moisture and abrasive dust away from critical electrical terminals.

A failure of the battery box directly impacts operational safety and reliability. If the housing is cracked or the latches are broken, batteries can come loose, leading to damaged cables and potential short circuits—a significant fire hazard. By keeping the batteries secure and clean, it ensures the rig has the consistent power needed to start the engine and run the control systems without unexpected electrical faults.

Regularly inspect the box for cracks, dents, and corrosion, paying close attention to the mounting points and lid seal. If the box is compromised and no longer closes tightly, it should be replaced.
