Full Technical Description

040 041 33 BREATHER Gearboxes and hydraulic oil tanks need to vent as their internal pressure changes with temperature and fluid movement. This BREATHER provides that essential function. It allows air to move freely in and out of the housing while its internal filter element traps abrasive dust and moisture, keeping the oil clean and protecting sensitive internal components from contamination.

A properly functioning BREATHER is crucial for the reliability of the entire system it protects. If it becomes clogged, pressure can build up inside the housing and force oil out past the main seals, leading to leaks and eventual component failure. A damaged or missing BREATHER allows contaminated air to enter, which accelerates wear on gears, bearings, and hydraulic pumps, significantly shortening their service life.

Inspect the condition of the BREATHER during every service interval. If it appears clogged with dirt and grime or shows any physical damage, it should be replaced immediately. This is a simple and low-cost maintenance task that prevents major, expensive failures of gearboxes and hydraulic systems.
