Look, when you're tearing down a hydraulic cylinder or a valve body to replace a seal, just swap this backing ring out too. Don't try to reuse it, especially if the O-ring failed. It's cheap insurance, and frankly, it's just good practice. And here's a tip: always give the seal groove a good once-over for any nicks or burrs before you put the new ones in. A tiny scratch in that groove can chew up a new seal and this backing ring faster than you can say 'leak,' even if everything else is perfect.
