When one of these key switches starts to wear out, you'll usually notice some frustrating intermittency. The rig might not power up right away, or you might have to jiggle the key a bit to get it to engage properly. Sometimes, the key itself will feel stiff or sticky, making it hard to turn, which is a pretty good indicator something's off internally. The worst is when it cuts out mid-operation, which can really mess up a drilling sequence and cost you valuable time on site.

Replacing this switch is generally a pretty straightforward job, but always take a minute to double-check the wiring harness right behind the panel. Corrosion on those terminals is a surprisingly common culprit for intermittent electrical issues, even if the switch itself is still good. Also, make sure you're using a key that isn't overly worn; sometimes a tired key can give you similar symptoms, making you think the switch is bad when it's actually just the key not making proper contact.
