If it's part of the dust collector, the most common thing is dust escaping from around the collector housing or even from the drill string's shroud. That tells you the negative pressure isn't holding like it should. You might also notice the dust collection system just isn't pulling as hard. If it's in an air circuit, you might pick up on a faint hiss, or you'll see your air pressure gauges acting a bit erratic, maybe even some sluggishness in a cylinder or valve it's supposed to be sealing. It’s a pretty clear indicator that your seal integrity is compromised.

Swapping this out isn't a huge job, but you gotta make sure it's seated properly. Before you even think about putting the new one in, always give the mating surfaces a good look-over for any nicks, burrs, or old gasket residue – even a tiny imperfection can mess up your seal. A lot of technicians forget to check the clamping rings or the mounting hardware; sometimes those get bent or worn, and then even a fresh rubber cloth won't hold tight. Just take your time, clean everything up, and make sure it's all aligned before you cinch it down. Doing it right the first time saves a repeat trip.
