Essentially, it ensures the rig's weight is properly distributed and the track stays on course, preventing excessive wear on other expensive track components.

When these rims start to wear thin or get damaged, you’ll definitely notice things getting a bit rough. Usually, what happens is the track chain starts to get sloppy, maybe even climbing the idler or roller flanges. You might hear a distinct grinding or clunking noise, especially when turning or traversing uneven ground. If it gets bad enough, you'll see accelerated wear on the track links themselves, and sometimes the track can even come off if the rim's completely shot, which is a real headache to put back on in the field.

Replacing these isn't too complicated, but it's crucial to make sure you check the mating surfaces on the roller body itself for any damage before you bolt on the new rim. Sometimes the old one wears into the hub, and if you don't clean that up, the new rim won't seat properly, leading to premature failure. Also, always double-check your torque specs on those bolts; they see a lot of vibration and stress out there, and a loose bolt means trouble.
