CYCLONE SWIVEL
The 550 004 90 CYCLONE is the key hydraulic component that allows for critical articulated movement on your rig, letting you precisely position the feed beam or boom. It enables rotation while extending or retracting, ensuring smooth and controlled operation.

Full Technical Description
550 004 90 CYCLONE is the workhorse that allows for that crucial articulated movement on your rig, letting you swing and position heavy components like the feed beam or boom without twisting up all your hydraulic lines. It's essentially a hydraulic cylinder built with a swivel joint, often at one end, which means it can extend or retract while also rotating. This setup is what gives you the flexibility to angle the drill head just right or get into those tricky positions on the bench. Without it, you'd be fighting a rigid system, and things would bind up fast.
When this cylinder starts to wear out, you'll definitely notice it in how the machine handles. Usually what happens is the internal seals begin to bypass, or the swivel joint itself gets sloppy. You might see the boom or feed beam start to drift when you try to hold it in position, or it'll feel sluggish and unresponsive when you command a movement. Sometimes, if the swivel bearings are really shot, you'll even hear a grinding or clunking noise during articulation, especially under load. That's a pretty clear sign it's time to investigate.
Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Before you even think about bolting up the new one, always take a good look at the mounting pins and bushings at both ends. They take a serious beating, and if they're worn out, your new cylinder will develop slop and premature wear almost immediately. Also, make sure you bleed the system properly after installation; trapped air can cause all sorts of erratic movement and make you think you've got another problem.
