Without it, you're looking at metal-on-metal pretty quick, and that's never a good sound. It's the component that prevents a lot of expensive downtime by just doing its job.

When this pump starts to go, you'll usually notice a few things. Sometimes it's a drop in pressure on your lube system gauge, or maybe the auto-lube cycle just isn't completing like it should. We've seen rigs where the feed chain starts groaning, or the drifter gets unusually hot after a short run, because it's not getting enough grease. This kind of issue is a slow burn, often leading to premature wear on bigger, more expensive components if you don't catch it early. Those little signs are your best warning.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but you really want to make sure your lines are clear before you hook up the new one. A blocked line downstream can kill a fresh pump just as fast as an old one. Always check the suction filter too; sometimes a clogged filter is the real culprit, not the pump itself. And don't forget to properly prime it once it's installed. You'd be surprised how many times a new pump fails because it wasn't primed right.
