550 045 65B REAR PLATE is usually one of those pieces that doesn't look like much, but it's critical for keeping things aligned and running smooth, especially in the feed system. Think of it as a sacrificial surface, or sometimes a guide, that takes the direct abuse from moving components. It helps maintain the correct clearances and keeps things from grinding directly on the main frame or housing. Without it, you'd have metal-on-metal contact where you absolutely don't want it.

When this plate starts getting thin or cracks, that's when you really notice it. You'll often hear a new kind of scraping or grinding noise coming from the area, especially during feed extension or retraction. Sometimes, if it's really gone, you might even see some slight misalignment or a bit of 'play' in the component it's meant to support or guide. What usually happens is the clearances open up, and whatever it's supposed to be protecting starts taking a beating, leading to faster wear on more expensive parts down the line.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but it's one of those 'while you're in there' items. Always check the mating surfaces for any damage or burrs before you put the new one on; a rough surface will chew up the new plate in no time. And don't forget to look at the fasteners – sometimes they're stretched or corroded, and reusing them is just asking for trouble later on.
