Basically, it's a fixed artery for getting pressurized fluid from point A to point B on the machine.

When one of these pipes starts giving you trouble, it’s usually pretty obvious. You'll either see a wet spot, a slow drip, or sometimes a full-on spray if it’s a high-pressure line that’s cracked. What often happens is it gets hit by something – a falling rock, another piece of equipment, or even just fatigue from vibration over years. Always check the mounting clamps and vibration dampeners when you're in there. People often forget those little rubber isolators, but they're crucial for preventing fatigue cracks down the road, especially on a machine that shakes as much as a drill rig.
