SIDE BOX R.H.
The 550 062 29 SIDE BOX is essential for guiding your drifter carriage smoothly and accurately on the feed beam. It takes the brunt of the lateral forces, ensuring straight holes and protecting other components from premature wear. Keep an eye on its condition to avoid costly downtime and maintain drilling performance.

Full Technical Description
550 062 29 SIDE BOX is the backbone for your drifter carriage, really. It’s what guides that whole assembly straight up and down the feed beam. Think of it as the main rail that carries the load and keeps everything from twisting or binding when you’re pushing hard or retracting. It’s critical for maintaining that precise alignment of the drifter, which, as you know, directly impacts your drill string and bit life. Without a good one, you’re just asking for trouble with crooked holes and excessive wear on other components.
When this slide bar starts getting tired, you’ll definitely notice it. Usually what happens is the drifter carriage starts to get a bit of play in it, maybe a slight wobble you can feel or even see. You might hear some new, unusual creaking or groaning noises from the feed system, especially when the drifter is under load. We've seen rigs where a worn bar causes the drifter to bind up, making the feed sluggish and inconsistent. That kind of slop in the system can really mess with your hole straightness and even put extra stress on the feed motor and hoses.
Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but it's not a job to rush either. When you're swapping it out, always make sure to properly clean the mounting surfaces on the feed beam. A lot of guys forget to really scrape off all the old crud and rust, which can prevent the new bar from seating correctly. Also, double-check the torque on all those mounting bolts; you don't want it working loose on you out in the field. It’s a good idea to inspect the mating surfaces on the drifter carriage for wear too, because a new slide bar on a worn carriage won't last as long as it should.
