Full Technical Description
550 114 46 RADIATOR PARTS is what keeps your rig’s engine or hydraulic system from cooking itself when it's really working hard. On a drill rig, you're constantly pushing things to the limit, and that generates a ton of heat. This unit's job is simple: take that heat from the coolant or hydraulic oil and dump it into the air. If it's for the engine, it stops your motor from seizing up. For the hydraulics, it keeps the oil from breaking down, which means your pumps, motors, and cylinders last a lot longer and actually perform like they're supposed to.
When one of these starts to go, usually the first thing you’ll notice is the temperature gauges creeping up. If it’s an engine radiator, your engine temp will climb, sometimes fast. For a hydraulic cooler, the oil temperature will get high, and you might even hear the hydraulic pump groaning a bit more than usual because hot oil just doesn't lubricate as well. Sometimes you'll spot leaks, either from the core itself or the plastic tanks, if it has them. But a clogged radiator, that's a sneaky one; it might look okay from the outside, but if the fins are packed solid with dirt and debris, or the internal passages are scaled up, it just won't shed heat like it should. That’s when you really start cooking expensive components.
When you're swapping one of these out, make sure you properly flush the system if it's an engine radiator, or clean the hydraulic system thoroughly if it's for oil. Don't just slap the new one in and call it a day. And seriously, take a good look at the fan shroud and the fan blade condition. A lot of guys forget that if the fan isn't pulling air efficiently, even a brand new radiator won't do its job right. Always double-check all your hose clamps and connections for leaks after you're done. A tiny drip can turn into a big problem fast out in the field.
