TEE-ADAPTER

550 198 96 ADAPTER, TEE is usually found where you need to split off a hydraulic line, maybe to feed a gauge, a pilot signal, or a smaller auxiliary function. It’s a pretty straightforward piece, basically just takes one inlet and gives you two outlets, or vice-versa if you're combining flows. We see these all over the place on rigs, handling everything from pilot pressure for directional valves to air lines for dust collectors. It’s a simple way to branch a fluid path without having to run completely separate lines back to the manifold.

When these adapters start to give up the ghost, especially if they're in a high-pressure hydraulic circuit, you'll often notice a few things. Sometimes it's just a slow weep of oil around the threads or the body itself, which is a dead giveaway. But if it's internal, say a crack you can't see, you might start getting erratic pressure readings on a gauge connected to it, or even some sluggishness in the function it's feeding. I've seen them cause a whole circuit to lose pressure because of a hairline crack you could barely spot, leading to things like a drill feed that just won't hold steady.

Swapping one of these out isn't usually a big deal, but you absolutely need to make sure the new one is the correct material and pressure rating for the application. Don't just grab any old TEE-ADAPTER from the bin. Also, always check the threads on the mating components for damage before you screw in the new one; a lot of times, if the old adapter failed, it might have stressed the port it was screwed into. And for crying out loud, use the right thread sealant or O-ring, depending on the type. A small leak here can turn into a big headache later.
