If this line isn't doing its job right, the pump starves, and you're not going to get the flow or pressure you need for anything on the rig, whether it's drilling, tramming, or just running the feed.

When this line starts to go bad, you'll usually notice it first as a whine or cavitation noise from the main hydraulic pump. That's the pump struggling to pull enough oil. Sometimes, you'll see the hose itself looking a bit flattened or kinked, especially under load. If it's sucking air, which is a common failure mode, your hydraulic functions will get sluggish and erratic. You might even see foam in the tank if it's really bad, or the oil level dropping faster than it should, even without a visible leak outside the tank.

Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but you really need to make sure the clamps are tight and the routing is correct. Don't just slap a new one on and call it a day; always check for any kinks or tight bends that could cause premature failure. A common mistake is not checking the condition of the O-rings or seals at the pump inlet and tank outlet. Those little guys are just as important as the hose itself for preventing air ingress.
