SPLINE
The 550 360 45 SPLINE is a critical wear plate designed to guide moving components and absorb friction within the drilling rig's feed system. It prevents costly metal-on-metal wear, ensuring smooth operation and extending the life of major structural parts.

Full Technical Description
550 360 45 SPLINE is typically found where you've got a lot of sliding action, like on a feed beam or maybe a drill string support. Its main job is to take the abuse of constant friction, keeping metal-on-metal wear down between moving parts. Think of it as a sacrificial layer that guides the carriage or whatever's moving, ensuring it tracks straight without gouging up the main structural components. It’s there to keep things running smooth and prevent bigger, more expensive damage.
When this plate starts getting thin or chewed up, that's when you'll usually notice things getting a bit rough. You might hear a new grinding or squealing noise from the feed system, especially under load. What happens is the clearances open up, and the guided component starts to wobble or bind. Sometimes, you'll see uneven wear patterns on the mating surfaces, or the feed might feel sluggish and inconsistent. If you let it go too long, you’re looking at accelerated wear on the main beam or carriage, which is a much bigger headache to fix than just swapping out a wear plate.
Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but you gotta make sure you check the mating surfaces thoroughly before you bolt the new one in. Look for any burrs, deep gouges, or deformation on the beam or carriage that the plate slides against. If those surfaces aren't clean and flat, the new plate will wear out fast, or it won't sit right. And don't forget to check all the fasteners – sometimes they loosen up, which just makes the wear worse. A little bit of anti-seize on the bolts helps for next time, too.
