If it’s holding a bearing, you might hear a new growl or whine, or feel excessive heat around that area. If it's part of a hydraulic cylinder assembly, you could see some internal bypass, maybe the rod drifts a bit when it shouldn't, or you get inconsistent movement. It’s often a precursor to bigger failures, like a blown bearing or a damaged seal, because things aren't held tight anymore.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but it's critical to get it right. Always check the mating surfaces for any damage or burrs before you put the new one in. And this is a big one: *always* use the correct torque spec for the fasteners. Don't just guess or go by feel.
