It’s what translates your input into physical movement on the ground, whether you're articulating the frame or turning the front axle. Essentially, if this line isn't doing its job, your rig isn't going to steer right, plain and simple.

When this line starts to go, you’ll usually notice it. The most common thing is a slow leak, maybe just a weep at first, but it’ll definitely get worse. Or, if the inner lining starts to delaminate, you might get sluggish steering response, almost like there’s air in the system, even if there isn't. Sometimes, if it's really bad, you'll feel the steering drift a bit, or it might just feel 'soft' and unresponsive. A complete blow-out isn't unheard of either, and then you've got no steering at all until it's replaced.

Replacing it isn't rocket science, but you gotta make sure you route it correctly. Don't let it chafe against anything sharp or hot, and double-check your fitting torque – too loose, it leaks; too tight, you damage the threads or the hose end. A common miss is not bleeding the system properly afterward, which can leave you with spongy steering for a while. Always give it a good visual inspection for any kinks or twists before you even fire up the rig.
