When this pump starts to go, you'll usually notice a few things. First off, the rig might feel sluggish, like it's fighting itself to move. You might see the pressure gauges fluctuating wildly or just sitting lower than they should be, even when you're trying to push it. A common tell-tale sign is a distinct whine or grinding noise coming from the pump itself, especially under load. That's usually the internal components, like the pistons or vanes, starting to wear down and losing their seal, or maybe the bearings are just shot. Sometimes, you'll even feel excessive heat on the pump casing.

Look, when you're swapping one of these out, make sure you've thoroughly flushed the system. You don't want any old debris from the failed pump getting into the new one. And always, always double-check your suction line for any restrictions or air leaks before firing up the new unit. It's easy to forget, but a tiny air leak there will starve the pump and kill it in no time. Also, don't just slap it on; verify your relief valve settings and make sure your filters are fresh. It's a bit of work, but it saves a headache later.
