Full Technical Description
550 458 36 GENERATOR Mounted on the diesel engine and driven by a belt, the ALTERNATOR is the heart of your rig's electrical system. It continuously generates the power needed to keep the batteries charged and to run essential components like the control system, sensors, and operator cabin lights.
A failing ALTERNATOR can cause significant operational problems. If it stops charging, the rig will run on battery power alone, leading to a sudden shutdown once the batteries are drained. This not only causes downtime but can also create a safety hazard if lights or warning systems fail unexpectedly.
Look out for a battery warning light on the dashboard, dimming headlights, or a whining noise from the engine bay as signs of a potential failure. When replacing the unit, always disconnect the battery first and ensure the new drive belt is tensioned correctly to prevent slippage.
