RADIATOR / AIR COOLER
The RADIATOR, part number 550 509 24, is the primary heat exchanger for your rig's engine and hydraulic systems. It’s critical for dissipating heat, preventing overheating, and keeping your machine running reliably in tough conditions. Regular inspection is key to avoiding costly downtime.

Full Technical Description
550 509 24 RADIATOR / AIR COOLER is essentially the rig's main heat exchanger, the big cooler that keeps the engine and often the hydraulic oil from cooking themselves. It’s where all that heat generated by the diesel engine and sometimes the hydraulic system gets dumped into the ambient air. Without it, you'd be looking at an overheated engine in no time flat, leading to shutdowns and potential damage to critical components. It's just a big heat sink, really, but absolutely crucial for keeping things running within their operating temps.
When this radiator starts to go, usually what happens is you’ll notice the engine temperature creeping up, especially when the rig is really working hard or it's a hot day. You might see coolant levels dropping more often than they should, or even find puddles under the machine from a pinhole leak or a cracked tank. Sometimes, the fins get so clogged with dust and debris, or bent up from rocks, that air just can't flow through properly, and then it’s just not cooling like it ought to. That’s a surefire way to shorten the life of your engine.
For maintenance, the big thing is keeping those fins clean. I've seen so many rigs come in with overheating issues, and it's just a radiator packed solid with dirt and mud. A good pressure wash from the inside out, carefully, can make a world of difference. Also, check the fan shroud and fan blades; a damaged shroud or bent blade can really mess with airflow. And don't forget to inspect the hoses and clamps for any signs of cracking or looseness – a small leak can turn into a big problem fast.
