550 516 22 AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY The primary job of this air cleaner is to remove harmful rock dust, dirt, and other airborne particles from the air before it enters the engine or compressor. It acts as the first line of defense, preventing abrasive contaminants from causing premature wear on piston rings, cylinder liners, and valve seats. Clean intake air is fundamental for maintaining the engine's compression and overall health.

A clogged or damaged air filter directly impacts the rig's performance. It restricts airflow, essentially starving the engine of the oxygen it needs for proper combustion. This often results in a noticeable loss of power, increased fuel consumption, and excessive black smoke from the exhaust. In a compressor, a blocked filter can lead to overheating and reduced air output, affecting flushing and drilling efficiency.

Check the air filter restriction indicator regularly. If the engine seems sluggish or is smoking more than usual, the filter is a likely cause. When replacing the element, ensure the housing is wiped clean inside to prevent any loose dust from entering the intake. Avoid trying to clean disposable paper filters, as this can create small tears that let damaging particles through.
