It’s a simple piece of steel, but it’s essential for transferring all that push and pull force without binding up. This pin lets the drill head slide smoothly along the feed beam, keeping everything aligned under heavy operational loads, which is key for consistent penetration.

When this pin starts to wear out, you’ll usually notice some slop in the feed system. The drill head might feel a bit loose, or you’ll see uneven wear on the feed rails because the load isn't being distributed right. Sometimes, you'll hear a distinct clunking sound, especially when the feed cylinder reverses direction or when the drill impacts the rock. If it gets really bad, the whole feed movement can become jerky, or even bind up completely, which is obviously a big problem out on the job.

When you're swapping one of these out, make sure you clean up the bores really well where it seats. Any burrs or old grease can cause it to bind or wear prematurely. And don't forget to check the condition of the bushings or sleeves it rides in; usually, if the pin is worn, those are too, and just replacing the pin won't fix the underlying issue for long. A bit of fresh grease on installation goes a long way to extend its life.
