INLET VALVE

550 569 02 VALVE, INLET is the main gate for air getting into your compressor. It opens up to let atmospheric air in during the intake stroke, then seals tight when the piston starts compressing. This action is critical because it's how the machine actually builds pressure. If it's not opening fully or sealing properly, you're just not going to get the air volume or pressure you need out of that compressor.

When this valve starts going bad, you'll definitely notice it. Usually, what happens is it doesn't seal completely anymore. You might hear a distinct 'hiss' or a 'fluttering' sound coming from the compressor intake when it's supposed to be closed, which is essentially compressed air leaking back out. Or, the compressor might just struggle to reach its set pressure, taking longer than usual, or sometimes it won't even get there at all. That's because it's losing some of that pressure every cycle. You might also see the rig's air pressure gauge fluctuating more than normal, especially under load.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a massive job, but you gotta make sure everything around it is clean before you put the new one in. What often gets overlooked is checking the condition of the intake filter and the associated piping. If there's debris or a restriction upstream, your new valve is just going to wear out prematurely or not work as intended. Always give those mounting bolts a good, even torque too; you don't want any air leaks around the flange.
