MAIN SWITCH
The 550 717 79 MAIN SWITCH serves as the primary electrical cutoff for the entire drilling rig. It's the critical component that safely isolates all power, enabling secure maintenance or complete shutdown. A failing switch can lead to frustrating intermittent power issues or even complete electrical failure on site.

Full Technical Description
550 717 79 MAIN SWITCH is essentially the primary electrical disconnect for the whole machine. When you turn it, you're either sending power from the batteries or external source to the main distribution blocks and control circuits, or you're completely cutting it off. It's the big on-off switch that isolates the entire electrical system, which is crucial for safety during maintenance or when you're just parking the rig up for the night. Think of it as the gatekeeper for all the electrons flowing through your drill.
When this MAIN SWITCH starts giving up the ghost, you'll usually see some pretty clear signs. The most common one is intermittent power – you flip it, and sometimes the rig powers up fine, other times it's completely dead, or it might cut out randomly. That's often due to worn or pitted contacts inside the switch itself, which struggle to make a solid connection under load. You might even notice the switch housing feeling unusually warm to the touch, or even a faint burning smell if the internal resistance is getting too high. Don't just keep cycling it; that heat can melt wiring or even cause a short.
Replacing one of these isn't rocket science, but you absolutely have to be careful. First thing, always disconnect *all* power sources – batteries, shore power, anything – before you even think about unbolting wires. When you put the new one in, make sure those terminal connections are clean and torqued down properly. A loose connection is a quick way to burn out a new switch, creating resistance and heat. Also, take a moment to check the condition of the main cables leading to and from it; sometimes the switch gets blamed when a corroded cable end was the real issue all along.
