Its primary job is to manage the direction and flow of high-pressure hydraulic oil to a specific circuit, such as the drifter's percussion or the boom's positioning cylinders. The integrity of these internal pathways is essential for the machine to operate as intended.

Over time, internal erosion from contaminated oil or cracks from system pressure spikes can compromise the valve body. This damage leads to internal leakage, which reduces the power and speed of hydraulic functions. For example, a worn valve body in the feed circuit can result in inconsistent drilling pressure and slower penetration rates. External cracks are a more serious issue, causing significant oil loss and potential equipment failure.

Look for persistent oil weeping from the body itself, not just the fittings, or a noticeable drop in performance in one specific hydraulic function. When installing a replacement, it is critical to use new seals and O-rings on all connecting ports and to ensure the mounting surfaces are perfectly clean to prevent leaks and ensure proper alignment.
