A correctly functioning accumulator is essential for maintaining the drifter's rated performance. If the internal nitrogen pre-charge is too low, the impact energy will drop significantly, slowing down your penetration rate and increasing stress on other hydraulic components. It also dampens pressure spikes, protecting hoses and seals from premature failure.

A common sign of a failing accumulator is a noticeable loss of drilling power or a 'soft' hitting sound from the drifter. Before attempting any service, always ensure the hydraulic system is fully depressurized.
