Full Technical Description
550 787 99 PLUG is essentially one of those critical junction points where your main harness wires come in, get organized, and then branch out to different sensors or actuators. It’s designed to keep all those connections tidy and, more importantly, shielded from the elements and the constant vibration that’s just part of life on a drill site. This box acts as a central hub for a specific section of the rig's electrical system, making sure signals and power get where they need to go without interference.
When this PLUG RB starts to go bad, usually what happens is you'll get intermittent electrical faults. Maybe a sensor suddenly drops out, or a solenoid valve doesn't fire when it should. You might chase your tail checking wiring, but often it's corrosion or a loose pin inside this box causing the headache. Sometimes, you’ll even see a bit of arcing or smell something hot if the connection really starts to break down under load, which is a pretty clear sign you need to get in there.
Replacing one of these isn't usually a huge job, but it's crucial to get the wiring right. Always double-check your pin assignments against the schematic; don't just assume the old one was wired correctly, especially if you're troubleshooting an existing problem. And for crying out loud, make sure those cable glands are properly tightened when you're done. A loose gland is just an invitation for water and dust to get in there and ruin your day, or worse, the next guy's. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference in the long run.
