When this valve starts to wear out, you’ll often notice a definite drop in flushing air pressure at the bit. The drill string might start getting stuck more often because those cuttings aren’t clearing like they should. Sometimes, you can even hear a distinct hiss or a 'chuffing' sound coming from the valve itself, especially if the internal seals are shot. Your air compressor will probably be working harder than it needs to, trying to make up for the pressure loss.

Look, when you’re swapping one of these out, always take a minute to check the air lines leading to and from it. Also, don't forget to inspect the filter upstream; a clogged filter starves the valve, making it look like the valve itself is failing when it's just not getting enough flow.
