If it's got internal leakage, you might see a cylinder 'drift' – like a boom slowly lowering when it should be holding position, or a feed motor feeling sluggish and not getting full torque. Sometimes you'll even hear a faint internal 'hiss' if it's a pneumatic one, or a low, groaning sound from the pump trying to maintain pressure against a leak. Pressure gauges might start fluctuating more than usual, too, especially when the system is under load, because that internal bypass isn't holding tight anymore.

Look, when you're swapping one of these out, the main thing is to make sure all your port surfaces are clean as a whistle. Any bit of grit or old gasket material left behind is just asking for trouble down the road. And don't forget to check the condition of the mounting bolts and any associated O-rings or seals that aren't part of the manifold itself but seal against it. People often focus just on the manifold and forget those little guys, which can cause external leaks even with a brand new part.
