STRAIGHT GREASE NIPPLE
The 551 562 23 NIPPLE, GREASE, STRAIGHT is a fundamental hydraulic or pneumatic fitting, essential for securely connecting lines and maintaining system integrity on your drilling rig. It ensures a leak-free pathway for fluids or air, preventing pressure loss and contamination.

Full Technical Description
551 562 23 NIPPLE, GREASE, STRAIGHT is one of those small but absolutely critical fittings that keeps your hydraulic or air lines connected and sealed up tight. On a drilling rig, these nipples are everywhere – connecting hoses to valves, pumps to filters, or just extending a line where you need a solid, straight connection. It's essentially a threaded piece of metal, designed to bridge a gap and ensure fluid or air gets exactly where it needs to go without any fuss. Simple job, but if it's not right, you've got problems.
When one of these nipples starts to go bad, usually what you'll see first is a weep or a slow drip, especially if it's in a hydraulic circuit under pressure. You might notice a slight pressure drop in that specific line, or maybe even some contamination if it's drawing air in through a failing seal. If it’s on an air line, you’ll definitely hear that tell-tale hiss, sometimes faint, sometimes a full-blown rush. Sometimes they just crack from vibration, over-tightening, or fatigue, and then you've got a full-blown leak on your hands, which can really mess with system performance or even cause a safety issue.
Replacing these is usually pretty straightforward, but don't just crank it down and call it a day. Always check the threads on both the nipple itself and the mating component for any damage or burrs before you even start threading it in. And for crying out loud, make sure you're using the right thread sealant or O-ring if it calls for one. A lot of guys forget to properly clean the old sealant out of the female threads or don't put enough new stuff on, leading to a repeat leak down the road. Torque it to spec, of course, but sometimes a little common sense goes a long way here too.
