When these rollers wear out, the drifter cradle can start to sag or move with excessive play. This misalignment not only causes crooked holes but also puts significant stress on the feed chain and motor, leading to premature failures. A seized roller, for example, will grind against the feed beam, damaging its surface and slowing down the entire drilling cycle, which directly impacts productivity.

Listen for unusual grinding noises during feed operation and visually check for flat spots or wobbling in the rollers. If the drifter's movement becomes jerky or you see metal shavings on the feed, it is a strong sign that the rollers need replacement. Changing them as a complete set is recommended to ensure even loading and restore the original alignment.
