It provides a straight, rigid path for the drifter cradle to travel on during both drilling and retraction, ensuring force is applied directly into the rock.

Correct alignment of the feed channel is critical for drilling accuracy and preventing component damage. A bent or heavily worn channel can cause the drill string to bind in the hole, leading to poor performance and an increased risk of breaking drill steel. It also puts unnecessary side-load on the drifter's internal components.
