It's a simple piece of rubber, really, but without it, your hydraulics just won't hold pressure.

When this O-ring starts to go bad, you'll usually notice it first as a slow weep around a cylinder rod or a fitting. If it’s internal, say on a valve spool, you might see things like cylinder drift or a general sluggishness in a function, because pressure is bleeding past the worn seal instead of doing its job. Sometimes, you’ll even hear a slight hiss if it’s a high-pressure leak, but usually, it's just that tell-tale oily residue that gives it away. Don't ignore those little drips; they always get worse.

Replacing one of these isn't usually a big job, but getting it right is key. Always make sure the groove is clean, no burrs or old seal residue left behind.
