A dead giveaway is often seeing wear marks on adjacent components – maybe a hydraulic hose starts to show some serious chafing against a frame member, or you might even hear a subtle thump-thump as a loose line vibrates against something when the rig's working. If you let it go too long, you're looking at potential hose bursts or electrical shorts, which are a real headache to deal with, especially when you're out in the field trying to find the source of a leak or a dead circuit.

Replacing one of these is usually pretty straightforward, but don't just slap a new one on and forget about it. Always take a good look at what it was holding – check those hoses or cables for any existing damage from where they were rubbing. Also, make sure you're using the right size and type of STRAP; sometimes guys will grab whatever's handy, but if it's too loose or too tight, you're just setting yourself up for another failure down the road.
