HOSE, WATER

551 800 20 HOSE, WATER A water hose is a vital part of any rock drilling rig, specifically designed to transport water from the machine's supply to the drilling point. This water delivery is crucial for several reasons in underground mining. It helps to flush rock cuttings out of the bore hole, preventing the drill bit from getting jammed or re-drilling material. The hose typically runs from a water manifold or swivel, often located near the feed system, directly to the drifter or the drill string itself.

Maintaining a steady and adequate water flow through this hose directly impacts both operational safety and drilling efficiency. Without sufficient water, the drill bit can overheat rapidly, leading to premature wear and reduced service life, which means more frequent bit changes and higher operating costs. Proper water flushing also ensures that rock cuttings are effectively removed from the hole, allowing the drill to maintain optimal penetration rates. Crucially, a well-functioning water hose is essential for dust suppression, protecting operators from harmful airborne dust particles and improving overall air quality in the mine.

Common failure signs for a water hose include visible leaks, a noticeable drop in water pressure at the drill bit, or physical damage like cracks, abrasions, or kinking along its length. Operators might also observe increased dust levels or faster bit wear if the hose is compromised. It's important to inspect water hoses regularly for any signs of wear or damage, especially in areas prone to rubbing or impact. A damaged hose should be replaced promptly to restore full water flow, protect the drill bit, and maintain a safe working environment.
